On Wednesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a strong 15-man provisional squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India.
England, the defending champions, will have the services of Test and T20I skipper Ben Stokes, who makes a return to 50-overs cricket. At the same time, one of the major contributors in their triumphant 2019 campaign, pacer Jofra Archer, is excluded from the initial list of players.
However, Archer is not entirely disheartened by the exclusion. Speaking to BBC Sport, the fast bowler said that he still had hopes of playing in the marquee event in October.
'I am alright; I feel a bit hopeful as well'- Jofra Archer
"I am alright. I feel a bit hopeful as well, but right now I am okay with things going as per plan. You just need a little bit of luck and little bit of hope," Said Archer.
Archer has been constantly troubled with injuries and only made a comeback into international cricket early this year before once again falling prey to an injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Mumbai Indians (MI) player will travel to India as a reserve player and is eyeing the backend of the tournament for a comeback. England's chief selector Luke Wright also hinted at the same while explaining Archer's exclusion.
