Avesh Khan sent down an exceptional final over against Delhi Capitals to star in a 12-run victory for Rajasthan Royals in match number nine of the IPL 2024 season. Defending 17 runs off the final six balls against a raging Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel, Khan conceded just four to keep Capitals down to 173-5.

The 27-year-old finished with match-winning figures of 1-29 off his four-over spell, which included the prized scalp of legendary Delhi Capitals opener David Warner.

After the match, Avesh Khan reflected his bowling mindset from his nerveless final over, and praised captain Sanju Samson for giving him confidence.

Avesh Khan “enjoying” his time at Rajasthan Royals

Avesh Khan titled the game back in Rajasthan Royals favour by dismissing a well-set David Warner in the 12th over of the Delhi Capitals innings. Moreover, Khan also sent down an extraordinary sequence of wide yorkers to restrict Capitals to just 173 by the completion of their 20 overs.

Speaking after the game, Avesh Khan said:

“My plan was clear to bowl the wide yorkers because one side of the boundary was longer. I was taking long breathes before delivering each ball and giving myself five seconds. I always focus on execution. Even if you execute your yorkers and go for boundary, it doesn't worry me because the batters have come to hit the ball. I always back my yorkers.”

Avesh Khan, who represented the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise last season, claimed that he is enjoying his time at the Rajasthan Royals camp alongside senior fast bowlers Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma and experienced Nandre Burger.

The 27-year-old also credited captain Sanju Samson for giving him confidence, and added that he keeps trying to hone his skills at the T20 level. Avesh Khan added:

“I'm enjoying my time here. We have Boult, Burger and Sandy and they have great experience. Sanju bhai gives me confidence to execute my plans. I always try to improve myself. Especially in T20s, I try to invent new balls. I don't think about selection. I focus on the process and try to execute the plans.”

Avesh Khan along with the rest of his Rajasthan Royals teammates will now face Mumbai Indians on April 1 for their subsequent challenge this IPL 2024 season. The match will be staged at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
