Coming back from an injury is not easy for a cricketer, and that too for a fast bowler is even tough. India's Jasprit Bumrah has broken the norm and displayed excellent form in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, having returned from a long injury layoff.
Bumrah starred for India in their emphatic seven-wicket win over Pakistan on Saturday, clinching two wickets and also the Man of the Match award.
Talking to ICC Digital Insider, the 29-year-old opened up on using his experience to his advantage and not focusing on the pressures or expectations. The Mumbai Indians pacer further spoke about his desire to play for India since childhood, which has helped him block all noise.
Here's what Bumrah said
"I don't really look at it as pressure or responsibility because as a child I wanted to be a cricketer. I wanted to play for India. I wanted to do the difficult job. I wanted to make my team win. So that is what I'm doing,
I've learned a lot over the years. I tried to use my experience, I've played a lot in this country. So you use my experience and try to help the team as much as you can because if you think about pressure and expectation and responsibility, you won't be able to perform with that baggage of expectation,"
In three World Cup 2023 matches, Bumrah has picked up eight wickets and is the joint-leading wicket-taker along with Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry. Since making his return in August against Ireland, the lanky pacer has claimed 18 wickets in nine outings.
