'I Actually Can't...' - Labuschagne's Response To Virat Kohli's Sledging In WC Final

Trying to disrupt his focus in a steadfast, skilful and ultimately match-winning partnership shared with centurion Travis Head, Virat Kohli took to sledging against Marnus Labuschagne, who revealed he gave the Indian legend an amusing response during the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad.

Labuschagne, who was happy playing second-fiddle in the glorious 192-run stand for the fourth wicket, played a measured knock of 58 not out off 110 deliveries. He was the one who calmed the Aussie nerves when Jasprit Bumrah got the 1,30,00-seated crowd on its feet and roaring with the breakthrough of Steve Smith.

Smith's departure reduced the Aussies to a precarious 47/3 in the chase of 241 and with Head yet to overcome the initial strife, Labuschagne dig deep into his resolve and managed to withstand the firing Indian attack before the conditions eased under heavy dew and gave the visitors an upper hand.

During his knock, Labuschagne not only had to confront the challenging playing surface and the India-dominant spectator turnout but also the quality of the bowling and opposition sledging apart from the pressures of a World Cup final.

How Labuschagne Countered Kohli's Sledging?

Determined to ruffle his feathers, Kohli tried to jeer up Labuschagne and get under his skin. But to no avail, as the rising young Australian right-hander told his Indian counterpart he couldn't hear a word spoken at the moment since the jampacked crowd present at the Motera Stadium was so loud.

"It was so loud and the wave of momentum India had was immense," Labuschagne wrote in his latest newsletter 'My World Cup Final Wrap'."The Indian team were getting into me and all I could say back, and very truthfully at that, was 'I actually can't hear what you're saying over the crowd'."

"On this bus ride to the ground, there was fans lining the streets from about 5km out. It was amazing to see the fans get behind the game like they did. A sea of blue in the crowd. Chills as the anthem plays.. a real 'us vs. the world' feeling. The underdog spirit we love," he added.
