'Hopefully, I don't get dropped': Travis Head Takes A Dig At Selectors After Memorable Ton in WTC Final

Day 1 of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 between India and Australia at The Oval belonged to one man Travis Head. Head battered and bruised India's lacklustre bowling attack, in alliance with Steve Smith, adding an unbeaten 251-run stand for the fourth wicket. Head, who became the first batter to score a hundred in WTC Final, remained not-out at 146 at stumps, with Australia in a position of dominance on 327 for 3, after being put into bat by India.

Speaking after the match, Head explained how he hopes that the middle-order batter isn't axed from the playing XI in the future, after getting dropped from the first Test in India, despite having an excellent series in Pakistan before the tour.

Head in WTC 2021-2023 cycle has already scored 1,354 runs at a staggering average of 58. Interestingly, this was the 29-year-old's sixth Test and fourth century in this WTC cycle.

Here's what Head said

"It honestly doesn't faze me, very privileged to be where I am and do what I do. We've got a very strong squad of guys, selection isn't always going to go your way, it hasn't in the past, that's out of my control. All I can do is be as consistent as I can be on the field, [and] off the field enjoy myself."

"Yes, I'd love to play every Test but that won't always be the case. That gives good perspective to moments like this. Hopefully I don't get dropped too much in the future but it will definitely happen … it doesn't give me extra fuel."

Talking about the Test, Head felt that the track had a lot in it for the bowlers, if they managed to hit the right lengths.

Head also talked about his partnership with Smith, who himself is batting on 95*. The left-handed batter stated how they both complement each other.
