The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is getting more and more difficult for Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya as the franchise faced its fifth defeat against the table toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 38 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on April 22, 2024 (Monday).

Former India all-rounder, Irfan Pathan expressed himself and raised questions and concern over Hardik Pandya's hitting ability after another failure with the bat against RR.

Hardik Pandya has not been in the best of form with the bat in the IPL 2024, he has scored 151 runs in 8 matches with a strike-rate of 142.45 so far.

Irfan Pathan Comments on Hardik Pandya's Batting Ability

The MI skipper just had another bad day on the ground he scored just 10 runs off 10 balls. He had bowled 2 overs conceding 21 runs with an economy of 10.50 without taking any wicket.

After his disappointing performance, Irfan Pathan took to X (formerly Twitter) and reflected on Hardik's batting ability and he said that his batting potential is deteriorating with every match.

And he believes that it is time to worry looking at the bigger picture ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

“Hardik Pandya’s hitting ability is going down. That’s a big worry on a larger picture. At the Wankhede, he is different but on pitches where there is little help is what is worrisome for him,” Pathan tweeted.

Talking about the match earlier MI won the toss and elected to bat first and posted a total of 179/9 with significant contributions from Tilak Varma (65 runs off 45 balls) and Nehal Wadhera (49 runs off 24 balls).

But the RR bowler, Sandeep Sharma stole the show as he scalped 5 wickets conceding 18 runs and was also awarded the Man of the Match for his extraordinary performance with the ball.

In chasing the target the hosts put up a brilliant performance with the bat with a thrilling century by young Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 104* in 60 balls with 7 maximums and 9 fours. The Rajasthan Royals & Co won the match by 9 wickets.

RR will play its next fixture against LSG on April 27, 2024. On the other hand, MI & Co will face Delhi Capitals on April 27, 2024 (Sunday afternoon).
