Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs inadvertently trolled the verbal skills of modern-day batting icon Babar Azam. Gibbs, who has coached Babar during his time at the Karachi Kings in PSL, stated that he often found it difficult to get his points across the Pakistani batter.
Quite recently, the legendary Proteas opener was asked by a fan to give some suggestions to Babar Azam considering the latter went through an underwhelming ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa at home.
Herschelle Gibbs trolls Babar Azam’s communication skills
On February 13, a Pakistani fan requested Herschelle Gibbs to suggest some inputs to struggling batter Babar Azam, considering the two previously spent time together for the Karachi Kings franchise in PSL.
Gibbs responded that “language is an issue” with Babar, and further claimed it is difficult for him to get his points across to the Pakistani cricketer. He said:
“Language is an issue with Babar, as you know his English isn’t great so it’s difficult to get points across to him.”
Babar Azam managed to record scores of just 10 and 23 against New Zealand and South Africa respectively in the first two matches of the recently-concluded ODI tri-series in Pakistan. Moreover, Babar also failed to go big against New Zealand on the day of the final in Karachi in February 14.
Struggling to score runs across all formats of the game, the 30-year-old is currently slated to reprise his role for the Pakistan team at the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy at home.
Pakistan, placed in Group A, will be facing New Zealand in the opening match of the tournament on February 19 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
