Rohit Sharma took field for Mumbai Indians for the 200th time in IPL by stepping into Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 27 to confront the home team, SRH.

Prior to Sharma’s landmark game, the Mumbai Indians franchise honored him by sharing a minute-long tribute video, featuring words of admirations from the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Mark Boucher and active skipper Hardik Pandya among others.

Emerging Mumbai Indians star Tilak Varma also expressed his respect for Rohit Sharma with a heartfelt remark just moments prior to the game.

Tilak Varma calls Rohit Sharma his ‘father figure’

Hyderabad-based cricketer Tilak Varma made his IPL debut through Mumbai Indians in 2022, back when Rohit Sharma was the captain of the franchise.

At the time when Sharma was prepping up for his 200th IPL outing for the Mumbai Indians, Varma expressed his heartfelt admirations for the former skipper through a minute-long video shared by the franchise on their social media platforms.

Tilak Varma said:

“He’s like a father figure to me.”

With his latest IPL 2024 outing against SRH, Rohit Sharma became the first player to feature in 200 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians.

Overall, the cricketer has featured in 209 games for the franchise, including the team’s Champions League Twenty20 fixtures. As of now, the legendary Mumbai Indians opener is their second-most capped cricketer after Kieron Pollard (211) across both tournaments (IPL and CLT20).
