Daryl Mitchell's heart got racing as IPL franchises turned him into a million-dollar entity within minutes of his name popping up at the IPL 2024 mini-auction held in Dubai on Tuesday (December 19). The New Zealand allrounder fetched a massive final bid of INR 14 crores from five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Ditched by Rajasthan Royals (RR) after a pair of outings back in IPL 2022, Mitchell returned to the T20 league with a roar, finding a staggering sum from the Super Kings franchise which added him to their list of prominent allround cricketers in one of the most balanced playing squad ahead of next season.

The 32-year-old benefitted immensely from his strong performances at the recent ICC World Cup 2023 in India where he struck two exceptional centuries against the hosts, including one in the marquee semifinal in Mumbai to compile a fantastic tournament tally of 552 runs in 9 innings.

Speaking about his experience of watching the bidding tussle pan out, the experienced cricketer said he felt a roller coaster of emotions once franchises started raising the paddle back and forth for his services.

Mitchell said it was fulfilling to see his name generating such fantastic interest after going unsold for IPL 2023 as multiple IPL franchises eyed a middle-order asset who could also roll his arms over for a couple of overs in the innings.

"It was obviously a pretty special night for us as a family, sitting here with my wife watching the whole auction. To see your name come up and then to go through that whole experience is definitely something that will stick with us for the rest of our lives," he was quoted as saying by Stuff.co.nz.

"Your heart starts to pump a little bit, as you see the paddles going up. But having been through the auction before and going unsold, it was a pretty special night last night to experience that," Mitchell added.
