Former legendary Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis believes that Virat Kohli will have to play a crucial role in driving India to their maiden Test series win on South African soil. The 48-year-old feels that Kohli will be able to impart his knowledge and expertise to the youngsters who will greatly benefit from his experience.

India are yet to win a Test series against Proteas in their own backyard. However, the Men in Blue came agonizingly close to winning their maiden Test series in their last two test tours in 2018 and 2022 respectively. In both tours, Kohli was the captain in which the powerful sub-continent nation lost by a margin of 2-1 twice.

Kallis backs Virat Kohli

During his interaction with Star Sports, Kallis anticipated that Kohli would have a prolific run in the upcoming Test series against the Proteas, after having played some sensational innings in the past already.

"I am sure he will want to have a big series here in South Africa. He has been in good form. I think he will play a major role in helping India. If they are to win here, he will have to have a good series. He's a massive player, no matter where it is. Having played here quite a bit and had a fair amount of success.

He'll be able to pass that knowledge on to the other guys, especially the younger guys and give them ideas on how to manage these conditions and then what to expect.”

Virat has a staggering Test batting average of 51.36 with 2 centuries to his name, one of which primarily features his breathtaking ton of 153 at Centurion which came in a losing cause. His form with the bat can surely improve India’s chances of securing their first-ever away series win against the Proteas.
