Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has provided a positive update on Nitish Kumar Reddy’s fitness ahead of the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia. The young all-rounder, who missed the final ODI due to a quadriceps injury, has now recovered and is likely fit to play in the series opener on October 29.
After the second ODI, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) provided an major update on Reddy.
"Nitish Kumar Reddy sustained a left quadriceps injury during the second ODI in Adelaide and was subsequently unavailable for selection for the third ODI. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him on a daily basis."

During the pre-match press conference in Australia, Suryakumar Yadav was asked about Reddy’s availability. The Indian skipper confirmed that Nitish has resumed training and is ready for selection.
“I think he is doing fine. Yesterday he did a bit of running, and batting also in the nets. Today he wanted to take a break as it was an optional practice, but we came to the ground because we had a team meeting and wanted to stay with the group. He looks good,” Suryakumar said.
It would not be wrong to say that Reddy’s fitness update comes as a major relief for India as the 'Men in Blue' has been dealing with a series of injury concerns in recent weeks. Along with Nitish's injury, Shreyas Iyer also faced a massive injury in the last ODI against the final.
Having said all this, Reddy has recovered and is expected to be available for selection in the playing XI for the first T20I against Australia. His inclusion could provide balance to India’s lineup, offering both batting depth and bowling options in the middle overs.
After losing the ODI series to Australia, India will look to start fresh in the shorter format. The series opener on Wednesday will be followed by four more T20Is, with the final match scheduled at The Gabba in Brisbane on November 8.
