India scripted history on Sunday, July 6, after the Shubman Gill-led side humiliated England with a 336-run defeat in the 2nd Test. Most importantly, it was the first time in history that the visitors beat the Three Lions at Edgbaston.
After the embarrassment for England, the caravan now moves to the Mecca of Cricket — The Lord's. The fans now await an update on English seamer Jofra Archer, who is part of the squad for the third Test.
Archer Missed 2nd Test Due To Emergency
For the uninitiated, Archer was not part of the first Test but was added to the squad for the Edgbaston Test. However, due to a family emergency, his return was delayed. In the latest development, England head coach Brendon McCullum has shared a positive update on the right-arm seamer.
McCullum remarked that Archer looks ready and is certainly available for selection for the 3rd Test at Lord's.
Archer Ready For Lord's
“He will certainly be available for selection, and if you look at it, our seamers have gone two Tests on the spin, and we have got a short turnaround before we head down to HQ. We’ll let the dust settle on this one, but Jofra is looking fit, he’s looking strong, he’s looking ready to go, and he’ll come into consideration,” said McCullum as quoted by The Guardian.
“We all know what he’s capable of achieving in Test cricket and we hope that when the opportunity does arrive for him, he’s able to recapture that and also improve on what he’s been able to do already in that form of the game,” he added.
England Also Add Gus Atkinson To The Squad
The Three Lions are struggling to challenge the Indian top order, and the hosts are certainly missing their veterans, Stuart Broad and James Anderson. Thus, to add more power to the pace attack, the Ben Stokes-led side have made a significant change to their setup by bringing in Gus Atkinson for the 3rd Test.
Notably, Atkinson was earlier part of the squad for India series, but got ruled out for the first two Tests because of injury.
