On Monday, July 7, the ICC released the three nominees for the Player of the Month Award for the month of June. The International Cricket Council included two South African stars - Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada for their stellar show in the WTC final, while Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka is another player who made the cut.
Pathum Nissanka had a great Bangladesh series where he was among the runs and scored centuries.
Kagiso Rabada
Rabada was instrumental in helping the Proteas end their 28-year-long trophy drought. The right-arm seamer was the best bowler in the WTC final against Australia as he took nine wickets in that match.
Rabada took a five-wicket haul in the first innings and followed it up with a four-fer to put the brakes on Australia's scoring rate.
Aiden Maiden
While Rabada was the leading man with the ball, Aiden Markram shone with the bat. Aiden didn't had luck on his side in the first innings and had to walk back to the pavilion without opening his account.
However, in the second innings, Markram was the key as he slammed a century, scoring the first hundred for the Proteas in an ICC final. Markram scored a majestic 136.
Pathum Nissanka
Nissanka started off the new WTC cycle in style and had a great Test series against Bangladesh. Nissanka scored 369 runs in three innings, averaging 123.
He scored two consecutive centuries. Missed out on a double hundred in the first Test and amassed 187 (256). Meanwhile, he backed it up with 158 (254).
The winner of the prestigious award will be announced in a couple of days, but the fans will witness a fresh winner, and none of the three nominated players have ever won this award.
