The spotlight was firmly on Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq as India and Afghanistan locked horns in a thrilling encounter at the World Cup 2023 on Wednesday.

Naveen opened up on Kohli chants and their amiable World Cup exchange

Against the backdrop of their widely discussed altercation during IPL 2023, spectators at the Arun Jaitley Stadium eagerly anticipated their face-off. But instead of a confrontation, a heartwarming gesture by the two came to the fore.

During the 27th over, in a move that surprised both pundits and fans alike, the duo shared a brief yet meaningful exchange. Rather than tensions flaring, they hugged and offered each other a congenial fist pump, epitomizing the sportsmanship spirit of cricket and silencing months of speculation over their rift.

While India emerged victorious in the match, sealing their second consecutive win of the World Cup by beating Afghanistan by eight wickets, it was the gestures on the field and post-match remarks that made headlines.

In the aftermath, Naveen was asked about the unmistakable and thundering chants favouring Kohli that reverberated across the stadium. He acknowledged, in essence, that such an outpouring of support was to be expected given they were on Kohli's home turf. He expressed understanding and conveyed that it's only natural for fans to rally behind their iconic star.

“It's natural. It was his home ground and the crowd will support their team and home boy. It is what it is,” said Naveen.

However, it was his reflections on the interaction with Kohli that became the highlight. Naveen conveyed that he sees Kohli as a great player. Addressing their on-field meeting, he implied that it was a simple gesture of recognizing past differences but understanding the need to move ahead.

“He is a nice man, a great player. We just shook hands and dusted off what happened in the IPL” added the Afghan quick.
