Rohit Sharma led India from the front in their eight-wicket demolition of Afghanistan in match number nine of the 2023 World Cup in Delhi. The cricketer punched out a boisterous 131, a match-winning hurricane laced with 16 boundaries and five sixes in a clinical Indian run-chase.

The win granted the Indian team their second in succession this tournament as they head to Ahmedabad for Pakistan challenge with a clean record on the points table. After India’s all-round dominance over Afghanistan, skipper Sharma said that the team will also be treating their Pakistan fixture in a similar manner.

“Looking at India Pakistan like …” Rohit Sharma said after win over AFG

India’s eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in Delhi was underpinned by captain Rohit Sharma’s thunderous ton, Jasprit Bumrah’s sizzling four-wicket haul and a clinical run-chase special by Virat Kohli at the death.

After the match, skipper Sharma summed up the importance of India’s wins over Australia and Afghanistan upfront at the 2023 World Cup, and signified their ability of absorbing pressure this tournament. During the post-match presentation, he said:

“Was a good win for us. Important to get the momentum at the start. You will be put under pressure. There will be a spell from the opposition and we'll have to absorb the pressure. We absorbed it well. For now, it's leaving what's happened aside and move on. You've got players with different skillsets bringing different attributes, which is good for the team. We got batters who play freely and fearlessly. When you have all-round players, things take care of themselves.”

Rohit Sharma further stated that the team is not concerned about any external favours, and are planning their scheduled Pakistan fixture in Ahmedabad the same way they treated their one-sided faceoff against Afghanistan.

“In World Cups, you need to respond with different styles of play. Looking at India Pakistan like we did this game. Don't want to worry about the external favours. We'll treat every game like that: how the pitch plays, conditions and combinations, etc.”

The high-profile India vs Pakistan World Cup 2023 shootout will be hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.

The much-anticipated match marks the third respective fixture for both sides this tournament, and the two nations will head into the battlefield in Ahmedabad with an unbeaten tag on their back.
