Team India's head coach Rahul Dravid emphasized that Suryakumar Yadav's recent performances in ODIs have catapulted him to a new level, a trend often seen in Indian cricket. He also noted that Surya is actively working on refining various aspects of his game.

Surya found himself under immense pressure after a string of lackluster performances in 50-over cricket. However, the team management remained steadfast in their support for the T20 stalwart, and he made a remarkable comeback just ahead of the 2023 World Cup. In the first two ODIs of India's home series against Australia, he showcased his talent by scoring 50 and an unbeaten 72*.

His resurgence continued throughout the series, accumulating a total of 130 runs in three ODIs at an impressive average of 65 and a striking rate of 139.78, including two half-centuries.

Dravid acknowledged that Surya's remarkable performances had significantly boosted his confidence.

"He's always a very good player. Two good knocks and certainly he has cracked it, it happens in our country right? It's a question of confidence that those two knocks would have given him. He is working on certain things, he's learning a few things. We have told him about finding other ways of scoring than his general route in T20s. He's in a really good space in terms of his skills,"  said Rahul Dravid in the press conference in Chennai on Friday, October 6 (As quoted by RevSportz).

Surya has been actively working on certain aspects of his game and expanding his scoring repertoire beyond the typical T20 routes under the guidance of Dravid and Co.

Suryakumar, affectionately known as SKY, possesses a unique batting style that allows him to change the course of a game, regardless of the match situation or the performance of the top order. However, securing a place in India's playing XI won't be a straightforward task.

Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav have all displayed excellent form recently, which bodes well for the team. The batting order presents an intriguing conundrum, especially considering that Rahul is almost certain to keep wickets. The selection dilemma will likely revolve around Iyer and SKY.

India is set to commence their World Cup campaign with a clash against five time World Cup winners Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
