Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar reckons ace Australian speedster Mitchell Starc might trouble Rohit Sharma in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Led by Rohit, India will face Australia in a five-match Test series Down Under, with the opening encounter taking place at Perth Stadium.

Rohit Can Be Troubled By Starc's Length and Line: Gavaskar

Meanwhile, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar stated that Mitchell Starc could pose a serious threat to Rohit in the high-voltage series. Speaking on a Star Sports show, Gavaskar opined that Starc, courtesy of his ability to swing the new ball, could emerge as Rohit's nemesis.

"At the start, he can be troubled by Mitchell Starc's lengths and lines," Gavaskar said on a Star Sports show. "What happens often with Rohit is that his foot doesn't move as much as it should in the first few overs of the contest, because of which he gets into trouble," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by TOI.

However, the iconic batter thinks Rohit Sharma can score valuable runs for India if he survives the new ball spell, as the Kookaburra ball hardly does anything after the first fifteen overs.

"But if he can survive the first two-three overs, he can score runs. Australian pitches are good for batters, and they use the Kookaburra ball. It doesn't swing or seam much after the first 15 overs. If you show some restraint in the first session, then you can score runs," he added.

Will Rohit Sharma Play 1st Test In Perth?

Rohit Sharma, who has received massive backlash for his batting and tactical shortcomings in the recently concluded home series against New Zealand, might also miss the first BGT Test in Perth due to personal reasons. His participation in the much-awaited face-off is subject to his availability, as he hasn't joined his teammates in Australia so far.
