Australia batter Travis Head opened up about his match-winning batting display in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against India at The Oval, England, stating that he was tested during the innings but he remained confident throughout his long stay in the middle.

Travis Head played a key role in engineering Australia's thumping win in the marquee event. His breathtaking knock of 163 runs on the opening day single-handedly shifted the momentum in favour of Australia, leaving India chasing shadows.

Head, who has been adjudged the Player of the Match award for his match-winning performance said this in the post-match conference:

“Lot of hard work over the two years. It's been nice. That's been the approach for two years (positive approach with the bat). Said through the week that I want to be able to be proactive. I was tested throughout the innings.”

With the scorecard reading 76/3 in 25 overs, Travis Head joined hands with Steve Smith and put on a 285 run partnership for the fourth wicket. Notably, Smith also played a scintillating knock of 121 runs from 268 balls, which helped Australia post a monumental total of 469 runs in the first inning.

Reflecting on his partnership with Steve Smith, here’s what Head had to say:

“It was nice to be out there for a period of time with Smudge. Amazing week. Amazing Test from him and what we've come to expect (from him) here in England. Hope it's a big couple of months from him. And I've always said that it feels like all the plans go to him, all the attention he draws, and I can just go about my work. Nice to spend some time out with him.”

Furthermore, Travis Head went on to say that he was confident about going and expressing himself in the middle. He is also hopeful to contribute to the team in the same manner in the upcoming Ashes 2023:

"It's about going out there and expressing that. It took me some time and everyone goes through that. I've always been open to change, open to learning. I've bedded down somewhat of a blueprint. It's not always going to work. It's nice to work that out in such a big game and hopefully continues in the next couple of months.”
