'Get Past Bumrah, Siraj Will...' - Bangar Backs Indian Bowlers To Overcome Explosive SA Batting

Even as many fancy the South Africans to derail the Indian juggernaut at the ICC World Cup 2023 in Kolkata, Sanjay Bangar reckoned the explosive Proteas would be just as wary of the peaking tournament hosts, especially their imposing pace attack and incisive spin duo.

The former Indian cricketer said the famed pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj along with the spin threat of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav would've been a cause of multiple discussions and planning inside South Africa's dressing room.

Heading to the Eden Gardens for Sunday's (November 5) classic match-up against their toughest opposition of the tournament so far, Rohit Sharma & company strive to pack another strong punch and continue their excellent winning streak, having battered Sri Lanka for an ignominious '55 all out' in a 303-run victory to make it 7-0.

Indian Bowlers Will Trouble South Africa - Sanjay Bangar

While India's star-studded batting unit has been firing collectively to post huge totals and chasing scores with ease, speaking to Star Sports, Bangar felt it is the team's bowling unit that could really dent the Proteas' hopes in what promises to be a battle royale for the top spot in the final World Cup standings.

"The South African batters will have trouble facing Indian bowlers. If you try to get past Bumrah, Siraj will get you. If you get past Shami, then Kuldeep will get you. So that's the kind of bowling attack that India has at the moment," Bangar said.

For what it's worth, however, it would equally be Indian bowling's toughest test of the competition to try and restrict or build inroads into a South Africa batting unit that has four of the top 12 run-getters of the World Cup.

Opening batter Quinton de Kock with 575 runs in seven innings and three centuries aside, middle-order trio of Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen have also contributed handsomely in South Africa's impressive surge to the knock-outs. Elsewhere, allrounder Marco Jansen at No.7 has provided the end-overs blitz while instilling a perfect playing combination and balance about the side.

Bangar feels the only missing piece in Proteas' jigsaw is a weak fourth and fifth bowling option, unlike India, which could be a huge point of difference if both sides play to their potential in front of a packed crowd in Kolkata.

"If I have to compare both those bowling line ups, South Africa, maybe the fourth bowler or the fifth bowler is slightly a weak link, I would say and that's where Indian batters will certainly have it slightly easier when they're facing South African bowlers," said Bangar.
