MS Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fifth title win in the recently-concluded IPL 2023 season. His latest achievement with the franchise equalled him with Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma as IPL’s most successful captain.

Tributes poured in from all corners of the cricketing fraternity for the 41-year-old, with former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram becoming the latest to join the bandwagon.

Wasim Akram praises MS Dhoni, makes bold prediction

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has described MS Dhoni as a gem of a captain and a cricketer. The pace legend has also claimed that the CSK skipper can win an IPL season with any given team.

While speaking on Sportskeeda, he said:

"He is a gem of a cricketer, gem of a captain. To win five IPLs with one team is a massive deal. It is such big tournament. There are 10 teams and you have to play 14 matches each to qualify. They started slowly, but you give Dhoni any team, he takes them to the final and makes them win it."

Akram also praised CSK for succeeding in IPL, describing the BCCI-organised tournament as one of the biggest and most difficult competition in world cricket.

MS Dhoni recently hinted out that he might return to lead CSK next year, if his body permits. The legendary wicketkeeper, who will turn 42 by next season, has been only playing IPL cricket since his retirement from the international game.

The ex-Pakistani speedster believes Dhoni will indeed play another season in IPL, and praised the CSK skipper’s physical fitness and ability to perform.

"He is physically fit and did not sit out of any matches in IPL 2023. After a certain age, making a comeback is difficult. But, knowing Dhoni, if that passion is still there, he will train. I think he'll come back stronger next year."
