'Gambhir Is A Real U-Turn Man': WC Winner Slams The Idea Of Rohit-Kohli Playing CWC 2027

The Indian cricket has entered transition phase. Rahul Dravid has stepped down as the Head Coach of India and Gautam Gambhir has succeeded him in the role.

The first assignment of Gambir would be the white ball tour to Sri Lanka. With both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announcing their retirement from the T20I format, the fans will be hoping to see the duo during the ODI World Cup 2027.

In his first ever press conference as the Head Coach of India, one of the main points was Gautam Gambhir giving his views on Kohli and Rohit playing in World Cup 2027. Gambhir opined that both Kohli and Rohit are world-class players and they still have a lot left to give to the game.

In the 1983 World Cup winner's opinion if the duo want to play in the marquee event then they will definitely be a part of the team.

Srikkanth rubishes the statements of Gambhir

However, this opinion of Gambhir did not sit well with the former opener, Kris Srikkanth. The yesteryear cricketer pointed out Gambhir's previous opinion where he stated that the experienced duo will not be a part of his team and called the new head coach of India a 'hip-hopper' (who changes his opinion very quickly).

"Gautam Gambhir is most hip-hopper. He is a real U-turn man. Before the T20 World Cup 2024, he was saying if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not perform, they will not sit in my team. Then he took a U-turn now, saying there is no player like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. After becoming head coach, he said that both have a lot of cricket left and hopefully they will fit for the 2027 World Cup," S Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

When asked about his opinion on Virat and Rohit playing the 2027 World Cup, Srikkanth said that while it might be possible for Kohli, it seems a bit too far fetched for Rohit Sharma.

"He is a good player, but his age is 37 presently, and the next ODI World Cup is three more years ahead. He will be 40 years old then. I mean, unless you are a super-fit person like MS Dhoni or Sachin Tendulkar, you can’t play World Cup at 40s. Yeah, Virat Kohli could play in the 2027 World Cup, in my opinion, for sure. But for Rohit, Mr. Gambhir, you went overboard; he will faint in South Africa," he added (as quoted by Hindustan Times)
