England batsman Harry Brook was elated to witness the magnificent display of swing bowling from seasoned pacer Stuart Broad during the closing session of play on Day 4 in the first Ashes 2023 Test at Edgbaston.

Stuart Broad was sensational during the closing stages on Day 4

Broad's displayed his proficiency in extracting movement in both directions, leading to the dismissals of the No. 1 and 2 Test batters in the world, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. Inevitably succumbing to Broad's utmost precision, Australia’s batting mainstays fell victim to their loose drives, and were subsequently caught behind.

Brook noted that Broad's performance instilled in him constant anticipation of a wicket with every delivery. He added that particularly during the late stages when the ball exhibited significant swing, Broad's exceptional display was truly exceptional. The attacking batter remained hopeful that the veteran pacer’s form would continue unabated into the following day.

"It was good. Felt like he (Broad) was going to get a wicket every ball. Especially when we got it swinging there at the end. He was awesome then and hopefully he can carry it on tomorrow," said Brook.

The prodigious batter also expressed his delight in the team's approach which he considered to be the most enjoyable experience he has ever had in the dressing room.

According to him, being part of this era and witnessing the exceptional accomplishments of his teammates over the past year has been nothing short of extraordinary. Brook further conveyed that his recent six months on the cricket field have been filled with an unparalleled level of excitement and engagement.

"The way we are going about our business is fun and that's the most fun I have had in the dressing room ever. So to be involved in this era and what the lads have done in the past 12 months has been phenomenal. I haven't had as much on the cricket field as I had in the last six months,” added the 23-year-old.

Fuelled by a robust belief in their abilities, Brook exuded confidence in England's prospects for winning the Ashes opener that would grant his side a 1-0 lead in the series.
