Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has come down hard on Pakistan's star batter Azam Khan and has asked the keeper-batter to work on his diet and disciplinary issues. At present, Azam is playing in the PSL where he is featuring for Islamabad United.
Azam, who was once touted as the next big thing in Pakistan cricket and also selected for T20 World Cup 2024, has fallen out of favour as he hasn't been able to perform well. In the latest events, Younis Khan has asked Azam to bring more discipline in his life and reduce junk food.
Younis Khan Slams Azam Khan
In a recent appearance on Josh Jaga Dey, Younis Khan spoke openly about the 26-year-old cricketer’s fitness issues and lifestyle choices.
“We all enjoy burgers – I do too – but as professional athletes, we have to show control. Diet and discipline are key at this level. If Azam wants a long and successful career, fitness must be a top priority. There are no shortcuts,” he added.
Azam Khan Gets Promoted In PSL 2025
Azam, who was struggling for runs, was promoted up in the batting order and played a valuable knock of 31 (30) as he came to open the innings during Islamabad's recent encounter against Karachi Kings. Notably, Khan's knock featured three fours and a solitary six.
Further, Younis appreciated the move and heaped praise on Islamabad United management for the clever move.
“Sending Azam to open is an unusual but smart decision. It gives him more time to bat and take advantage of fielding restrictions. This could help him grow as a player. However, Younis pointed out a technical weakness in Azam’s batting — his struggle against fast, short-pitched deliveries. Fast bowlers know his weakness and always test him with short balls,” he explained.
Talking about the ongoing PSL season, the Khan has scored just 51 runs in three matches, averaging 17, at a strike-rate of 108.51.
