New Zealand captain Tim Southee recently lauded India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, declaring him the best fast bowler of the current generation. 

At the Ceat Cricket Rating Award on August 21, Southee praised Bumrah's remarkable performances across all formats since his return from a major injury in 2023.

'Bumrah is Better Than Ever,' says Southee

Bumrah, who underwent back injury in 2022, has not only returned to the international stage but has surpassed his previous performances.


“To be able to firstly bounce back from the major injury and come back, he’s even better than what he was beforehand. Throw in on top of that, having to juggle multiple formats, can be difficult at times as well,” Southee said.

"He seems to have been able to do that with ease as well...He's probably more experienced, understands his game a bit more."

Southee highlighted Jasprit Bumrah's excellence across all formats, emphasizing his unmatched consistency.

“We are just seeing a great version (of Bumrah) across all three formats. He’s brilliant across all three at the moment. I don’t think there’s anyone that he’s better in (better than him), he is tremendous across all three (formats),” Southee said.

Bumrah's performance since returning from injury  

Since his return in August 2023, Bumrah has been instrumental in India's successes. He played crucial role in India's 2023 ODI World Cup, claiming 20 wickets in 11 matches. In the T20 World Cup 2024, Bumrah's wickets and an economy rate of 4.17 were pivotal in the India's victory, earning him the Player of the tournament award.

India's ace pacer is expected to be in action during the upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand, starting on October 16.
