After leading Australia with the ball, left-arm pace spearhead Mitchell Starc is all set to play his 100th Test against the West Indies at Kingston from July 12th. Ahead of the game, Starc spoke candidly about his major sacrifice, but has no regrets at all.
Mitchell Starc Opens Up About Missing T20 Cricket
Australia's legendary pacer Mitchell Starc has shown tremendous dedication over the past decade, and even more as he has been their prime pacer, putting them ahead in most crucial situations with his lethal bowling.
Speaking exclusively to cricket.com.au, Starc revealed that he had done everything to look after his body after getting injured multiple times and letting his team down in crunch situations, which he dearly regrets.
“I've tried to look after my body and find ways through pain barriers to make an impact for the team. I've been a player that's been injured and left the team a man down before - I never wanted to do that again."
However, he has no regrets about missing franchise cricket, which he has done all these years to look after his body in a bid to ensure that he remains fit for the most crucial red-ball series for Australia.
It must be noted that Starc missed plenty of T20 cricket in the last decade to ensure he remains reliably fit for Australia in international cricket, as he sacrificed himself for his country.
“The years that I did miss franchise cricket, I don’t regret that at all. To get my body in as good a spot as I could for Australia to play 99 games, spend some time at home, spend some time with Alyssa [Healy] and family. That’s the reason why I did those things. Whether it’s paid off now, being a couple of days away from playing 100, or the series wins or the Test match wins, looking back at it, I wouldn’t change it."
Further mentioning that he thinks it has paid off for him, as he is all set to feature in his 100th Test against the West Indies, which he believes is something he has done wonderfully well, and he would not want to change what he has done to reach this stage.
Mitchell Starc All Set To Become Second Australian To Play 100 Tests
In his long, legendary career, Mitchell Starc will be getting his 100th Baggy Green against the Caribbean side at Kingston, Jamaica, as the series will now move towards the third Test which will be a pink ball day-night game, while Starc will only become the second Australian, after another legendary pacer Glenn McGrath, to play 100 Test matches.
The 35-year-old, who currently has played 99 matches, has a total of 395 wickets at an economy of 3.47, averaging 27.4, where he has picked 15 5-wicket hauls in the white jersey.
