Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj expressed his indescribable joy at the prospect of playing in his first-ever World Cup, particularly in his home country.

While Team India's World Cup squad boasts cricketing veterans like captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravichandran Ashwin, all of whom have prior experience in the ODI World Cup, there are also numerous players who are set to make their debut in the 50-over World Cup.

Siraj's special message

Players like Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj, have all candidly expressed their childhood aspirations of donning the national colors and their palpable excitement to be part of the biggest cricketing spectacle in a video shared on the official Instagram account of the Indian cricket team.

"I don’t have words to describe this feeling; talking about being part of the World Cup team gives me a high. I would be playing my first World Cup, and that too in India. It’s a feeling I can’t describe in words,"  said Mohammed Siraj in a video shared by the Indian cricket team’s official Instagram handle.

Siraj's form this year, particularly in ODIs, has been stellar. He currently holds the number one ranking among ODI bowlers globally. In 14 matches, he has impressively secured 30 wickets, with only Kuldeep Yadav having more wickets than him in the Indian team.

Furthermore, Siraj played a pivotal role in India's Asia Cup 2023 victory last month, concluding the continental tournament with 10 wickets at an astounding average of 12.2, which included a sensational six-wicket haul during the final against Sri Lanka.

Such has been Siraj's ascent that even an experienced World Cup campaigner like Mohammed Shami is in doubt for a spot in the playing XI.

Following his impressive performance in the Asia Cup 2023, the Hyderabad-based bowler is expected to play a significant role for India in the ongoing ODI World Cup held in their home country.

The Men in Blue will commence their World Cup journey against Australia in Chennai on October 8.
