India's Tour of Australia did not end on a sweet note for the visitors after they lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy and failed to qualify for the World Test Championship Final. Despite having a brilliant start to the five-match series, one pressing concern relating to their batting line-up bothered India continuously and eventually costed them big.
India's Twin Blow: Lose BGT And WTC
While Rohit Sharma stood out from the fifth Test match owing to his bad form, one can only wonder if India's performance was better than before or was it the same since the entire batting line-up was going through a rough phase. Cricketing superstar and a run-machine against Australia, Virat Kohli, also had a tough time batting at the Australian pitches and saying a strict no to the outside off-stump deliveries.
Speaking on his potential last series Down Under, Australian captain, Pat Cummins reminisced the ‘theatre’ that Kohli brought more than his performance. In the post-match interview he said:
"It's always been a a wonderful contest. More than just the runs that he scored, he brings a bit of theatre to the game which is sometimes good and sometimes it can rile you up as an opposition, which I'm sure is part of his plans,” Cummins said in a response to a PTI query after the six wicket win here.
“Really enjoyed playing with him. You know, he’s been one of the the star batters for the last decade or so. You know, if you get his wicket it goes a long way to winning a game so yeah, it will be sad if it’s his last series.”
Virat 'King' Kohli Out Of Touch Not Out Of Class
Not just on-field, the greatest nemeses of the Australian crowd and media was also subjected to numerous off-field controversies. From being disrespected by the foreign media to giving a fitting 'Sandpaper' response on the final Day of play at the SCG, Kohli had a whirlwind time in Australia.
While the King had a woozy Tour this time, amassing only 190 runs from five games, he still roars as he hopes for a strong comeback. While this could have potentially been Kohli’s last possible Tour to Australia, his stellar Test record in Australia over the years will go down the books of history. He has scored 1,542 runs in 18 matches at an average of 46.72, including seven centuries and four fifties and some highly-intense altercations with the Aussie crowd.
