Babar Azam, currently in Sri Lanka for the LPL 2023 season, has congratulated Stuart Broad upon the latter’s retirement.

The English speedster starred in his side’s emphatic 49-run win over Australia in the final Test of the 2023 Ashes, which also happened to be his final international appearance. Broad plucked the final two scalps of the match to win it for England and ultimately extended his glorious Test tally to 604 wickets.

Babar Azam praises Broad’s services to cricket

Pakistan captain Babar Azam, a batting icon himself, has praised Stuart Broad for his cricketing achievements. He took to Twitter and acknowledged the speedster for completing 600 wickets in the recently-concluded Ashes, describing it as a huge achievement.

"Happy retirement, Broad! You have truly honoured our game with sheer passion and a thriving ability to always go hard at it. 600+ Test Wickets is quite an achievement and Cricket will always remember your services," Babar tweeted.

Notably, back in 2020, Broad heaped praise on the Pakistani batter upon taking the latter’s wicket in a Test match in Manchester.

Upon dismissing Babar Azam, the English speed sensation said:

“Babar Azam is a really classy player which you can see by some of the shots he played. We knew he would be a big wicket and I was pleased to get him out.”

While Broad embarks on his new life after retirement, Azam will continue his commitments for Colombo Strikers in the LPL 2023 season. Quite recently, the right-hander scored a match-winning 59 for his side against B-Love Kandy during a one-sided game in Colombo.
