The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have announced that Afghanistan will play a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka. The short series hosted by Afghanistan will be played between August 22 and August 26, just days before the scheduled Asia Cup 2023, which starts August 30.

The first two ODI will be held in Hambantota, while the final match will take place in Colombo before both teams fly out to Pakistan for Asia Cup. ACB chairman Mirwas Ashraf expresses delight over arranging the ODI series as preparation for a jam-packed season ahead.

Here's what Ashraf said

"Our previous ODI assignment was a 2-1 series victory in our away tour to Bangladesh, which has boosted the team's morale for the Pakistan series. We are satisfied with our preparations for the Asia Cup as we have featured in multiple ODI commitments in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh recently, and playing Pakistan, in Sri Lanka, will help our squad read the conditions and further prepare for the event."

Several Afghanistan and Pakistan national players are featured in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023, making the logistics for the ODI series easier. The LPL 2023 ends on August 20.

Interestingly, Afghanistan are yet to beat Pakistan in an ODI, having lost all four previous encounters.
