Mumbai Indians went down chasing a mammoth 278-run target against SRH last night, and captain Hardik Pandya was caught in the eye of the storm because of his low strike rate. 

IPL 2024 season witnessed one of the most enthralling and extraordinary games of cricket last night when SRH shattered all league records for a post-groundbreaking 277 runs on board in the first innings.

MI, meanwhile, recovered well and were off to a blazing start until Pat Cummins struck with his golden arm.

Regardless of two major wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, youngster Tilak Verma kept the required run rate under check and stretched the game until death overs.

However, captain Hardik Pandya’s lackluster cost MI a record win. He was sent packing by Jaydev Unadkat after a 20-ball 24 runs knock with an abysmal strike rate of 120.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer turned commentator Irfan Pathan took shots at Hardik Pandya while criticizing his strike rate. 

In a tweet, Pathan expressed that if the whole team is playing at a 200+ strike rate then why can’t the captain bat at over 120 strike rate. He is an experienced leader of the pack and should have led from front.

Instead, Pandya put extra pressure on the likes of Tim David and wasted crucial deliveries in the middle.

Needless to say, Hardik Pandya cost MI an extraordinary win to some extent. While the chase was steep, MI had it under control whilst Tilak Verma was batting. In the end, Mumbai Indians (MI) fell short of 31 runs and registered their second straight loss of the IPL 2024 season.
