'Gutsy' - Tim Paine Lauds Pat Cummins For Bowling Travis Head Against South Africa

Opener Travis Head starred for Australia in their ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final win over South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, making contributions not only with the bat but also with the ball, which had more impact.

Despite South Africa's poor start, middle-order batters David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen provided resistance against Australia in last evening's knockout, where Pat Cummins' call to bowl Head turned the tide back in the five-time champion's favour.

The pair added 87 crucial runs, before Head wreaked havoc on South Africa, claiming two consecutive wickets in his over, first getting the well-set Klassen (39*) and then Marco Jansen (0).

Former Australia Test captain Tim Paine has praised Cummins' call to bring on Head against two supreme players of spin bowling, which could have gone the other way as well. Speaking to SEN Breakfast, Paine credited Cummins as the hero of Australia in their three-wicket win over the Proteas.

Here's what Paine said

"When he brought Travis Head on, it was a gutsy move because Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller were in and they were forming a bit of a partnership. They're probably two of their most dangerous and best players of spin. For Pat Cummins to throw 'Heady' the ball, I mean, Heady can bowl, he's got some skill, he bowls a beautiful off-spinner."

Australia plays India in the World Cup 2023 Final on Sunday at Ahmedabad.
