The domestic cricket circuit has long been a breeding ground for stars, and New Zealand’s scene is no exception as Bevon Jacobs continues to turn heads. In the ongoing Super Smash 2025-26, the batter is hitting hard and recently equalled Devon Conway’s iconic T20 feat.
Just after hitting a sublime half-century in the last clash, he entered the elite list. Moments after the match, when asked about the secret behind his brilliance, his candid reply instantly caught the attention.

As the Super Smash is going on, the cricket fans are enjoying some pure moments of the Kiwi brilliance. But among all the heroics, Auckland batter Bevon Jacobs grabbed attention with his unreal form. With five consecutive half-centuries, he not only stunned fans but also equalled star New Zealand batter Devon Conway’s record of scoring the most consecutive fifties by a Kiwi batter in men’s T20 cricket.
While facing Otago, he scored a sublime fifty and played an unbeaten knock of 78 runs in just 51 deliveries. With that knock, he pushed the side to register a dominating win. After Auckland secured a thrilling five-wicket victory, Jacobs shared his excitement.
“Yeah, it's been really nice to contribute to the season and I've been enjoying myself out there,” he said.
That exceptional innings earned him the Player of the Match award. At the end, when the broadcasters asked him the secret behind his unreal form, the batter’s answer turned heads.
“There's no secret to it [five fifties in a row]. I guess I've just been having fun and I guess trying to keep it as simple as possible and just doing what I can to try and get the boys over the line. Obviously, we were disappointed we couldn't do it against the Kings so it was nice that we could finish the job today,” he added.
Jacobs applauds Chapman’s immense impact
As Bevon Jacob’s stunning innings grabbed the attention, Mark Chapman’s outstanding innings remained in the shadows. After losing three wickets in 32 runs, Chapman stitched a game-changing 87-run partnership with Jacobs. After securing the victory, the Kiwi batter hailed Chapman’s influence in his stunning innings.
“Yeah, 100% [wanted to be there at the finish]. I think me coming in early with Chappy, having someone with his experience, is always awesome. He kept my head straight and kind of just told me, 'just bat for a bit, heaps of time out there, and try and take it as deep as possible' and so we were able to build that partnership, and that was really helpful in the scheme of the game,” he said.
Big stage awaits as Jacobs nears national duty
In the ongoing edition of the Super Smash, Jacobs is in great form as he is leading the run charts, scoring 328 runs in five matches . Despite making waves with sublime form in the shortest format, he failed to secure any IPL contract for the upcoming season. Yet, an even bigger opportunity now awaits, promising a new chapter in his rising journey.
Making his T20I debut for the Blackcaps last year, he is set to be back in the T20I squad. As the Kiwis are all set to face India in a T20 series, Jacobs is all set to come back in the side. Although he missed out on the T20 World Cup squad, the clash against the Men in Blue offers him a golden chance to prove his worth.
