Virat Kohli might have stepped away from red-ball cricket but his connection with fans, especially the youngest ones is far from over. In a heart-melting story shared by Harbhajan Singh, the former India spinner revealed how his 8-year-old daughter, Hinaya, was left heartbroken after hearing about Kohli’s sudden Test retirement.
Harbhajan Shares What Virat Kohli Told His Daughter
It all began when Harbhajan Singh tweeted a heartfelt message after Kohli dropped the retirement bomb on May 12.
“Why, Virat why?” he wrote, echoing what millions were thinking. But it wasn’t just fans and cricketers asking the question. At home, his own daughter Hinaya wasn’t having it either.
"Papa, why did Virat retire?" she asked. Harbhajan didn’t have the answers. So what did she do? Took matters into her own little hands.
Hinaya Messaged Virat Directly After His Retirement
Hinaya decided to message Kohli herself.
"This is Hinaya, Virat, why did you retire?" she texted.
And that is when Kohli’s heart sank. Harbhajan said Kohli smiled reading the message but behind that smile, there was emotion.
Virat replied with just three words: “Beta, it’s time.”
Harbhajan admitted that even though fans were shocked and his daughter was upset, only Kohli truly knows what went into the decision.
Virat Kohli's Test Career
Kohli signed off from Tests with an incredible legacy: 123 matches, 9230 runs, 30 tons, and countless memories. From Adelaide to Lord’s, he has done it all in whites. But now, he will focus solely on ODIs, having already bid goodbye to T20Is last year.
It is worth mentioning that Harbhajan and Kohli go way back. They have shared dressing rooms, World Cups, and match-winning moments. The duo played 8 Tests, 41 ODIs, and 5 T20Is together and were part of the glorious 2011 World Cup-winning squad.
