Ben Stokes Opens Up On His Decision To Unretire From ODIs and Talks With Buttler

14 months back, Ben Stokes played his last One Day International. He decided to take retirement from the 50-over format to focus on the T20Is and Test cricket. He was also named as the Test captain of England after Joe Root stepped down.

In the 2019 World Cup, it was Ben Stokes who played a brilliant knock in the finals and took England over the line helping them win their first-ever World Cup title. He also helped England lift the T20 World Cup 2022 by scoring an unbeaten 52 against Pakistan in the Final.

The left-hander was confined to playing only Tests and T20Is until the English management along with the captain Jos Buttler reached out to him. They asked Stokes whether he wanted to come out of retirement for the upcoming World Cup.

Here's how Ben Stokes accepted England's call-up:

Ben Stokes accepted the ECB's offer to come out of retirement for the upcoming World Cup as the schedule is not tight as well for the other formats. The all-rounder has been struggling with injuries from a last couple of years and has not played much cricket.

He kept in front of the management that he is available if they want him to be in the team but he will be not bowling due to his knee injury. He appreciated Jos and Matthew that they did not force him but they were keen to pick him up even if he came in as a pure batter.

Stokes played his first ODI game after 14 months against New Zealand and scored a fifty on his return, no doubt why England picked him even when he can't bowl. Post World Cup, he will be undergoing a knee surgery and will miss the India series.
