Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad quipped about the controversy surrounding the slower over-rates as seen in the ongoing five-match Test series between India and hosts England. With Dukes ball calling for repeated ball changes between play, bowling teams have been struggling to complete their quota of overs within the stipulated time frame.

Moreover, only 83 overs were bowled on Day 1 of the ongoing Lord’s Test, with the number further declining to 72 on Day 2. The third day’s play saw a little more than 77 overs being panned out between the two sides.

Broad Recognizes Final Over Of Day 3 Lasted Seven Minutes

Shortly after stumps on Day 3, former England fast bowler Stuart Broad joked about the slower over-rates as seen in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test series. Addressing the final over of Day 3 of the Lord’s Test, Broad acknowledged the fact that it took seven minutes to complete, largely owing to Zak Crawley’s delaying tactics and his verbal argument with Indian captain Shubman Gill.

Taking to X, the legendary English paceman wrote:

“I’ve been moaning about slow play so feels strange to me that my favourite over of the series, the final one of the day, lasted 7 minutes.”

As it happened, the English openers were tasked to face a couple of overs against India late on Day 3 before stumps. With Jasprit Bumrah bowling the first over of the innings, England’s Zak Crawley pulled out of his crease multiple times, and asked for a physio to check out his fingers after getting hit by the Indian paceman on his gloves.

As one can expect, Crawley’s antics did not go down well with Indian skipper Shubman Gill, with both cricketers going at each other towards the closing moments of the day.

Rare Deadlock Keeps Lord’s Test In The Balance

India folded up for 387 in 119.2 overs, with KL Rahul top-scoring through his century. Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja also unleashed cracking 70s for the visitors. With both sides finding themselves in a rare first innings deadlock, England reached 2-0 from one over before stumps.
