Babar Azam 'super excited' to play with Steve Smith at Sydney Sixers in BBL 2025-26

This Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 season is set to commence on December 14, and this season will be even bigger than the previous ones as several Pakistan star players have been roped in by the franchises, including Babar Azam, who will represent the Sydney Sixers. 

The Pakistan batter has become one of the most expensive player signings this season, and apart from playing extravagant shots, Babar is also eager to play alongside one of the Aussie legends, Steve Smith. While Smith is away for the international duty with Australia, he will be back to play for the Sixers in January, once the Ashes end.

However, that has not stopped Babar from hailing Steve smith as one of the best batter as the Pakistan great is “super excited” to play alongside the Australian legend.

“I am super excited to be a part of the Sydney Sixers,” Babar told Telecom Asia Sport. “It is a fact that you learn a lot while playing in Australia so this is going to be a good experience for me, more so because I will get a chance to play alongside Steve Smith, who is a great player.”

Babar was expected to open alongside Smith in the BBL, but with Smith on national duty, Babar fans have to wait for a bit longer to see the dream pair open the batting for Sixers.

The former captain, Babar, is one of the seven Pakistani players taking part in the BBL this season. His best friend, Mohammad Rizwan, will represent the Melbourne Renegades, while the ODI captain of Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi, will play for the Brisbane Heat.

Haris Rauf will once again represent the Melbourne Stars, while Shadab Khan will play for Sydney Thunder. Also, Hasan Ali will be in the Adelaide Strikers squad and Hasaan Khan will also play for the Renegades as BBL expects the Pakistan players to light up the league.
