Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly believes that the current struggling Pakistan unit has the potential to become a great side in international cricket. The cricketer-turned-administrator added that the team management simply needs to make some changes to gain improved results for the coming tournaments.

Ganguly handpicked senior batter Babar Azam and fast bowling maverick Shaheen Afridi as some of the key ‘Men in Green’ performers in the current side.

Sourav Ganguly’s advice for Pakistan team

The Pakistan cricket team, under new skipper Shan Masood, recently embarked to Australia for a three-match Test trip ‘Down Under’. Last month, under the leadership of Babar Azam, the team slumped to four successive defeats at the 2023 World Cup in India to crash out of the semifinals race.

After Pakistan failed to qualify for the top four, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly advised the ‘Men in Green’ team management to make a few changes within their camp, in a bid to become a potent force in world cricket.

A legendary cricketer himself, Ganguly named Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi and Imam-ul-Haq as some of the leading stars of the Pakistan set-up at the moment.

As quoted by Geo Super, he said: "The country that has Shaheen Shah Afridi, the team that has Rizwan, Babar, and Imam could be great if some specific changes are made."

Pakistan will now face reigning WTC and 2023 World Cup winners Australia in their own backyard for a three-match Test series from mid-December till the first week of January.

The first of the three Test matches will commence from December 14 onwards at the Perth Stadium, and the fixtures constitute a part of the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
