The match, which took place on Monday, October 23, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, now pushes the Pakistan side to the brink of an early departure from the tournament.

While many expected Pakistan to emerge victorious, Afghanistan put in a brilliant performance overhauling Pakistan's total of 282 runs with eight wickets in hand and an over to spare.

Despite commendable performances by Babar Azam, who scored a gritty 74, and Abdullah Shafique's steady 58, the Afghanistan batting lineup, led by outstanding innings from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Ibrahim Zadran (87), Rahmat Shah (77*), and captain Hashmatullah Shahid (48*), clinched a memorable victory for their team.

In his comments, Yousuf revealed how Babar was left in tears following the humiliating defeat. However, he was quick to note that the responsibility for the loss isn't Babar's alone, emphasizing that both the players and the management share in the blame. The erstwhile cricketer conveyed that the nation stands firmly behind its captain in these trying times.

"I heard Babar Azam cried after the defeat against Afghanistan. It's not only Babar's fault, the entire team and management is involved. We are with Babar Azam in this tough time and the entire nation is with him,” said Yousuf.

Meanwhile, the road ahead appears challenging for the Pakistani team, currently perched in fifth place in the points table. The equation for them to advance to the semi-finals demands not only that they secure victories in all their upcoming matches but also significantly bolster their Net Run Rate. Even then, their fate might hinge on the outcomes of matches not in their control.

With the pressure mounting and questions looming over his captaincy, the cricketing world now keenly watches Babar, awaiting his response in the upcoming games.
