In a landmark achievement, Pakistan's cricket captain Babar Azam has secured his place among the greats, becoming only the second Pakistani batter to accumulate 1000 runs in ICC World Cups.

Babar Azam set to overtake Javed Miandad

Entering the match with just 16 runs short of the mark, the talented right-hander effortlessly reached the milestone, taking his cumulative World Cup tally to an impressive 1058 runs from 26 matches. With an average of 44.08 and an impressive strike-rate of 95.31, Babar's journey includes one century and a commendable ten half-centuries.

The legendary Javed Miandad remains the only other Pakistani to have touched this hallmark, with a slightly higher aggregate of 1083 runs. Babar, however, with matches in hand, is primed to surpass this record, adding another feather to his already illustrious cap.

Meanwhile, Babar's performances in this World Cup have been a talking point. His 74 runs off 92 balls against Afghanistan, filled with four boundaries and a maximum, showcased his return to form. However, the campaign hasn't been without its challenges.

His outings against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka were less fruitful, and a gritty half-century against Rohit Sharma's India came in a match that Pakistan couldn't clinch.

As the Men in Green gear up for their next clash against South Africa on October 27 at Chepauk, all eyes will be on Babar. Fans worldwide will be eager to see if the 29-year-old can not only lead his team to victory but also leapfrog Miandad to become Pakistan's highest run-scorer in World Cup history.
