Even though Pakistan pulled off a thumping six-wicket victory over Ireland in the must-win tie in Dublin, there have been plenty of concerns in the Men in Green camp ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Among them, the biggest concern is who should open during the showpiece event.

There are quite a few candidates who can do the job, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, and Fakhar Zaman, to name a few.

In a recent interaction, the former Pakistan head coach, Misbah-Ul-Haq, was asked who should be his priorities. And he replied with a proper explanation, which, of course, made sense.

“I feel that the best opening combination, looking at the team, would be a right-left combination. That would be ideal. They are currently playing Saim Ayub, who is not delivering at the moment. I feel that different kinds of players – Saim on one end and Babar or Rizwan on the other end – can complement each other well,” Misbah said, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan's next assignment, under the leadership of Babar Azam, will be in England. They will play a four-match T20I series, set to get underway at Headingley on May 22. Will Babar listen to Misbah in this mega series just before the World Cup? Well, we will find it out soon.
