The Patan High Court on Wednesday found Sandeep Lamichhane, the star Nepal leg-spinner, 'innocent' on a rape case against him by Kathmandu District Court.

Lamichhane was punished with eight years of imprisonment for raping an 18-year-old woman, but now, he is available for national squad selections in the group, which will travel to the West Indies and the USA for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Earlier, a single-judge bench ordered Lamichhane to pay Rs 2,00,000 in compensation to the victim and to pay a fine of Rs 3,00,000. Now, with every allegation being false, Lamichhane isn’t required to pay any compensation.

Lamichhane, the quickest to get 100 ODI wickets, was one of the shining stars for the country for a while. Then, while he was at his very best for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), he was taken into custody by the Kathmandu Police in September last year.

From thereon, due to this critical allegation, he had not been in the mix of things before receiving the ultimate punishment earlier this January.

Now, with the latest developments, Lamichhane is all set to make his comeback at the upcoming showpiece event. Nepal’s journey at the World Cup will get underway on June 4, against the Netherlands. They are pooled into Group D, along with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
