On Wednesday, India's legendary spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin shocked everyone by announcing his retirement from international cricket. Unexpected and sudden exit, R Ashwin's 14-year-long career was full of achievements and historic feats.

The 38-year-old dropped the bombshell when he announced his retirement at the end of the drawn third Test against Australia in Brisbane. He flew back to Chennai the same evening and was welcomed warmly by his family and friends there on Thursday morning. 

With 537 wickets from 106 Tests, Ashwin is second only to Anil Kumble, India's highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. His retirement has been met with many emotions from fans all over Twitter, including his now former-teammate, Virat Kohli, who expressed his sadness and penned an emotional note for his long-time friend.

"I've played with you for 14 years and when you told me today you're retiring, it made me a bit emotional and the flashbacks of all those years playing together came to me. I've enjoyed every bit of the journey with you ash; your skill and match-winning contributions to Indian cricket are second to none, and you will always and always be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket. 

Wish you nothing but the best in your life with your family and everything else that it unfolds for you. With massive respect and lots of love to you and your close ones. Thanks for everything buddy," he concluded.," Kohli wrote on December 18, hours after Ashwin announced his international retirement at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Ashwin To Play At IND vs AUS 4th Test At MCG?

Reacting to his heartfelt message, Ravichandran Ashwin made a cryptic remark that made fans wonder if the legendary Test spinner could once again return to play on the field for a farewell match as he promised to be with Kohli during the Boxing Day Test against Australia. He hinted at a possible return while reminiscing about the iconic India versus Pakistan T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. 

"Thanks buddy! Like I told you, I will be walking out with you to bat at the MCG," Ashwin wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Ashwin will continue to play club cricket and will be seen donning the yellow jersey as he will play for for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL next year.
