Sanju Samson started the match brilliantly with the bat in the Kerala vs Mumbai game during the SMAT 2025 season. The match was played at Ekana Cricket Stadium B in Lucknow on Thursday, December 4.
Leading the Kerala team, Sanju looked confident right from the beginning. After winning the toss, he opted to bat first and opened the innings with Rohan Kunnummal.

Sanju Samson looked in great touch as he played an impressive innings. He scored 46 runs from just 28 balls, hitting eight boundaries and two big sixes. He was timing the ball well and giving Kerala the strong start they needed.
However, his innings came to an end when Shardul Thakur got rid of him. Even after Sanju’s departure, Kerala continued to build their total.
Vishnu Vinod also batted very well for Kerala. He stayed not out on 43 runs and helped the team reach a solid total of 179 runs. His steady batting ensured that Kerala had a strong score to defend.
In reply, Mumbai began their chase but couldn’t keep up with the required run rate. Their openers struggled, with Ayush Mhatre scoring only three runs. Ajinkya Rahane played a decent knock of 32 runs while Sarfaraz Khan scored a strong 52. Suryakumar Yadav also contributed 32 runs. Despite these efforts, Mumbai kept losing wickets at important moments. In the end, the entire Mumbai team were bowled out for 163 runs in 19.3 overs, falling short by 15 runs.
A major highlight for Kerala was KM Asif’s outstanding bowling performance. He took 5 wickets in his spell, which played a crucial role in stopping Mumbai from reaching the target.
Throughout this SMAT tournament, Sanju Samson has been in great form. He has scored 160 runs in 5 innings with an impressive strike rate of 141.59. Notably, he has also been included in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming South Africa series, starting on December 9.
