After stumps on day 4 of the 3rd Test between India and Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane, the visitors managed to avoid follow-on and put 252 runs on the board. India still trail by 193 runs but have just one wicket in hand.
The persistent rain at the Gabba has helped Team India survive so far in the tournament as Australia, batting first, put 445 runs on the board. While the fans would hope for rain to fall on day 5 to help India draw the game, there is still a chance for the Rohit Sharma-led side to still win the game from here.
How Can India Win Gabba Test?
Now since India have avoided the follow-on, Australia will have to come to bat next. The baggy greens are in desperate need of a win as they eye WTC final qualification. Thus, in order to fetch a result, the Aussies might look to declare the innings early on.
What If Australia forfeit 2nd innings?
Rain will also play a crucial part on day 5 and if it spoils the first session, Australia might even look to forfeit their second innings and try to take 10 wickets quickly. They currently lead by 193 runs and a target of 194 with one session in hand is still chasable given the speed at which the game is played in today's time.
India Opt Agressive Intent
Further, in case rain doesn't play spoilsport, Australia might look to bat 10-15 overs and add around 100 more runs to give India a target of 250 runs. Meanwhile, India can stun Australia by playing an aggressive brand of cricket and try and chase down the target in around one session. The idea seems far-fetched but teams have pulled miracles in the past and cricket is known for its uncertainties.
