With T20 cricket rising in popularity as compared to the other two formats, teams all over the world are strengthening their T20 setups for the major tournaments. The Proteas are improving in all forms of the game as youngsters like Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee are stepping up on the biggest of occasions.

The South African team's preparations for the shortest format have begun now as they are hosting a three-match T20I series against the number one ranked T20I team, India. The rain played its part in the first game as we could not have the game and now the remaining two T20Is will determine the results.

The young Marco Jansen has been nothing short of extraordinary ever since he started donning the South African jersey irrespective of the format. He is turning out to be the lethal Protea fire and rising up in the ranks. We all are familiar with his skills in the Tests and ODIs but can he continue the same in the shortest format?

Since Jansen has recently made his T20I debut, he has been able to do what he is known for and has picked up five wickets in three games. He will be looking to carry the same form and momentum in the coming two games against India.

Jansen may have been new to the shortest format while playing for South Africa, but he has been playing franchise cricket everywhere and can hit some long balls as well. He is a perfectly fitting all-rounder in any kind of team and if he wants to play the shortest format for the National team, he would need to do the same as he has been doing in the other two formats.

Let's look at his top three bowling performances in the T20Is so far.

The West Indies team toured South Africa for an all-format series, where they could only win the T20I series, while the host won the ODI and the Test series. The T20I series comprised three games and in the second game of the series, and Marco Jansen was also featuring in his second T20I game.

Over 510 runs were hammered in a single T20I game as the Windies went on to post a total of 258 and the Proteas chased the total with seven balls remaining. In his second T20I game, Marco Jansen was hammered for 52 runs but he went on to take three wickets of Kyle Mayers, the centurion - Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran. It wasn't the ideal performance for him in terms of runs conceded but three wickets in his second game is nothing short of exemplary.

When India hosted a five-match T20I series against South Africa before the T20 World Cup 2022, the left-arm tall seamer, Marco Jansen got to play his first-ever T20 international game. Although, he could not make a huge impact but helped his team by picking up a crucial wicket of Shreyas Iyer.

The Proteas bowlers including Marco Jansen restricted the Indian team to just 169 runs but South Africa could not manage to chase 170 and lost the game as India went on to level the series. It was not an ideal debut for the 22-year-old Marco Jansen as he went on to concede 38 runs in his four overs but he managed to pick one wicket.

Right before the ODI World Cup 2023, the South African team hosted Australia for a white-ball tour, which comprised five ODIs and three T20Is. The left-arm speedster, Marco Jansen was included in the first T20I and was set to play only his third T20I game. The Australian team went on to post a mammoth total of 226 runs.

Marco Jansen, in his very first over, got the wicket of the dangerous Travis Head but could not make his spell a one to remember as Mitchell Marsh and Tim David's hammering got the best of Proteas bowlers and Marco went on to concede 45 runs in his quota of four overs.
