There are only a handful of elite bowlers in international cricket who have surpassed the 100-wicket mark in each of the ODI, T20I, and Test cricket formats. Surpassing 100 wickets is a work of toil and skill as well, since the landmark feat is a momentous one for one format itself, and achieving it in all three speaks of utter dominance in every format.
Jasprit Bumrah reached this feat after the December 9 match against South Africa and joins an elite list which consists of four other players. Here's a look at all of them who have 100-plus wickets in every format of the game.
5) Shaheen Afridi - (121 Tests, 135 ODIs, 126 T20Is)
Shaheen Afridi, the left-arm pacer of Pakistan, has reached the feat quickly before even being 25 years of age, with 121 wickets in Tests, 135 in ODIs, and 126 in T20I cricket. Notably, Afridi has a strike rate of 16.5 in T20Is, underlying how lethal he is with the ball.
However, in Tests, he averages 27.91, indicating a slight struggle to scalp wickets, while maintaining an economy rate of 3.16. He has a total of 382 wickets across formats, as the baby-faced menace of Pakistan continues to successfully instil fear in the hearts of opponents in international cricket.
4) Jasprit Bumrah – (234 Tests, 149 ODIs, 101 T20Is)
Jasprit Bumrah was at 99 wickets in T20Is before the December 9th match, and while defending India’s total against South Africa at Cuttack, Bumrah scalped two wickets to achieve the massive feat of surpassing 100 wickets in T20Is. He had already surpassed the 100-wicket mark in the Test and ODI formats. This feat made Bumrah add a feather to one of the greatest bowler caps as he records 484 wickets across formats.
In Test cricket, Bumrah averages 19.79, while in T20Is, he has the lowest average of 17.92. He has a solid strike rate of 16.9 in T20I cricket as he boasts 101 wickets in the format from his 81 matches.
3) Lasith Malinga – (101 Tests, 338 ODIs, 107 T20Is)
Lasith Malinga, the Sri Lankan pace veteran, who was known for his unorthodox swinging mechanism of bowling, has 546 wickets across formats, with the most being in ODIs. Malinga, who was spotted by the Sri Lanka cricket team as a teenager from Galle, rose to be one of the most destructive and lethal pacers in the game.
Malinga has 101 wickets in Tests, 338 in ODIs, and 107 wickets in T20I cricket, which underscores his legacy with the ball and his lethality with his searing yorker deliveries.
2) Shakib Al Hasan – (246 Tests, 317 ODIs, 149 T20Is)
Shakib Al Hasan, one of the greatest all-time all-rounders in cricket, and one of the finest that Bangladesh has ever produced, has 712 wickets in international cricket, with 246 from Tests, 317 from ODIs, and 149 from T20I cricket. The slow left-arm orthodox spinner has been a menace to many since his debut back in 2006.
He was the most effective in T20I cricket, though he played ODIs for most of his career and bagged 317 wickets. Shakib, who also captained his side for a long time, had his form rarely shaken as he also produced magic with the bat for Bangladesh’s middle order.
1) Tim Southee – (391 Tests, 221 ODIs, 164 T20Is)
New Zealand's ace veteran, Tim Southee, has 776 international wickets to his name, as the right-arm swing bowler burst onto the cricket scene back when he was only 19. Southee doubtlessly is one of the greatest ace bowlers of New Zealand, who left behind a legacy with his unmatched tally of international wickets.
In T20Is, Southee bagged 164 wickets, while in ODIs and Tests, he scalped 221 and 391 wickets respectively. He was the most effective in T20Is with an average of 22.38 and a strike rate of 16.7, while in ODIs he averaged 33.70 with an economy rate of 5.53 and a strike rate of 36.5. His quality bowling often dismantled confident opponent line-ups, and his most remarkable spell stood out back in 2012 as he picked up 7 for 64 against India.
