Returning to the Test action since July, Bangladesh started off the Test series against Ireland in a fantastic fashion, showcasing dominance in both the departments.
After dismantling the visitors for 286 runs in just over a day, the Bangladesh top-4 showed an exemplary display to try and bat the opposition out of the match. As they look to clinch the first Test in Sylhet, we take a look at the innings where the most number of Bangladesh batters scored fifty-plus runs.
2. Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Chattogram, 2022: 4 batters
In a drawn Chattorgam Test of 2022, Sri Lanka batted first and scored 397 runs in the first innings.
The hosts responded by taking a 68 run lead, with Tamim Iqbal scoring a 133, alongside Mushfiqur Rahim's 105. Mahmudual Hasan Joy also played a crucial 58 at the top of the batting order, followed by Litton Das' 88(189) at 6.
2. Bangladesh vs New Zealand, 1st Test, 2022: 4 batters
Bangladesh managed to bowl out New Zealand for 328 runs in Mount Maunanui in the New Year's Test and responded with 458 runs, courtesy of 88 and 86 from Mominul and Litton, respectively.
The duo was also supported by opener Mahumudul Hasan Joy (78) and Shanto (64) as they clinched the opening Test by 8 wickets.
2. Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe, Only Test, 2021: 4 batters
Bangladesh toured Zimbabwe in the 2021 summer, facing off in a one-off Test in Harare.
After Mominul Haque won the toss and batted first, he led the team with a 70, followed by Mahmudullah's 150* lower down the order alongside Taskin Ahmed's 75 and Litton Das' 95.
After posting 468 runs in the first innings, they ended up winning the match by 220 runs.
2. Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe, Only Test, 2020: 4 batters
In response to Zimbabwe's 265 runs, Mushfiqur racked up a 203*(318) alongside Mominul's 132 at number 4. Litton Das and Shanto were also among the runs with 53 and 71, respectively, to guide them to 560/6 (dec.).
Bangladesh ended up winning by an inning and 106 runs.
2. Bangladesh vs West Indies, 2nd Test, 2018: 4 batters
During Bangladesh's emphatic innings and 184 run victory against the touring West Indies, Mahmudullah scored a 136(242), supported by his teammates, Shadman Islam (76), captain Shakib (80), and Litton Das (54) to seal the match.
Thanks to the bowlers, they did not need to bat again in the game.
2. Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, 2018: 4 batters
Batting first in the 2018 series opener at Chattogram, Mominul Haque scored a brilliant 176(214) and was assisted by Tamim's 52(53), Mushfiqur Rahim's 92(192) and captain Mahamudullah's 83*(134).
The quartret helped them reach 513 runs, but Sri Lanka's 713/9 (dec.) and Bangladesh's 307/5 (dec.) in the subsequent innings ended the game in a draw.
2. Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 2nd Test, 2017: 4 batters
In Bangladesh's memorable series draw, where they also notably won their first ever Test in the Sri Lankan soil, the batters posted 467 runs in response to the hosts' first innings score of 338.
Shakib Al Hasan's 116(159) was supported by Soumya Sarkar's 61(121) at the top of the batting order, followed by captain Mushfiqur's 52(81) and Mosaddek Hossain's 75(155) lower down the order.
After taking a 129 run first innings lead, they went on to win the match by 4 wickets.
2. Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, 2013: 4 batters
Over the years, we have seen a lot of memorable battles between the Asian powerhouse Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Similar was the case when the touring Bangladesh racked up 638 runs in response to Sri Lanka's 570/4 (dec.) in the first innings.
In the drawn Galle Test, captain Mushfiqur (200), Mohammad Ashraful (190) and Nasir Hossain (100) lead to team to a remarkable total with a small asisstance of 55 runs from Mominul.
2. Bangladesh vs England, 2nd Test, 2010: 4 batters
As England toured Bangladesh in 2009/10, the Bangladesh side tried to put up a fight against the visitors with resiliant first innings score of 419 runs in Mirpur.
Tamim Iqbal led the team from the top, scoring 85(71), followed by the gritty knocks from Mamuduallah (59), Naeem Islam (59) and Shafiul Islam (53) to help the team with the lower order contributions.
Altough it was not enough to win the match, but Bangladesh showed the determination to do well against a formdable lineup.
2. Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe, 1st Test, 2005: 4 batters
During Bangladesh' emphatic 226-run win over the visiting Zimbabwe team in Chattogram, the Asians displayed a fantastic batting effort in the first innings.
Nafees Iqbal (56), captain Habibul Bashar (94), Rajin Saleh (89) and Mphammad Rafique (69) were the batters with fifites, to guide them to 488 runs. They ended up winning the clash on the fifth day.
1. Bangladesh vs Ireland, 1st Test, 2025: 5 batters
While batting second against the touring Ireland, in the middle of the Day 3 action, four Bangladesh batters have already gone past the fifty run mark.
The 25-year-old opener, Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored a magnificent 171(286), to help his team past Ireland's 286 runs. He was brilliantly complemented by his opening partner Shadman Islam's quick 80(104), followed by Mominul Haque's 82(132) at number 3.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das also went on to score a fifty at 4 and 6, as Bangladesh surpassed the 250-run lead.
1. Bangladesh vs Pakistan, 1st Test, 2024: 5 batters
During Bangladesh's historical clean sweep in Pakistan, their batters set the tone well for them in Rawalpindi, as they took a 117-run first innings lead in response of Pakistan's 448/6 (dec.).
The ever-present Mushfiqur Rahim put up a masterclass for his 191(341), alongside opener Shadman Islam's 93(183), Mominul's 50(76) and lower-middle-order contributions of Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, scoring 56 and 77, respectively.
They went on to win the match by 10 wickets, as they chased down 30 runs on the final day.
1. Bangladesh vs Pakistan, 1st Test, 2021: 5 batters
Batting first in an away fixture in Pallekele, Tamim Iqbal gave Bangladesh a good start by scoring 90(101). After losing his opening partner early, Tamim added 144(222) alongside Shanto.
The latter went on to score 163(378) and also went on to stitch a 242-run partnership with then captain Mominul, who got a resilient 127(304). Subsequent batters, Mushfiqur and Litton chipped in with 68 (156) and 50(67), as they posted 541/7 (dec.).
Courtesy of Dimuth Karunaratne's 244 and Dhananjaya de Silva's 166, Sri Lanka scored 648 runs and the match ended in a draw.
1. Bangladesh vs New Zealand, 1st Test, 2017: 5 batters
As Bangladesh toured New Zealand for a Test series for the first time since 2009/10, the batters turned up to the occasion from the word go in Wellington to pile up 595/8 (dec.) in the first innings.
The senior pros, Shakib Al Hasan and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim led from the front with their 217 and 159, respectively, as they added a whooping 359(495) for the fifth wicket. Tamim (56) and Mominul (64) were once again among the runs alongside Sabbir Rahman's 54.
Despite taking a 56-run first innings lead, they lost the match by 7 wickets, with the hosts chasing down 217 runs.
1. Bangladesh vs West Indies, 1st Test, 2012: 5 batters
In response to the touring West Indies' 527/4 (dec.), courtesy of a double-century from Shivnarine Chanderpaul and tons from Kieran Powell and Denesh Ramdin, five fifty plus scores from the Bangladesh batters guided them to a 31-run lead.
Tamim once again scored a fifty, adding 72(71) at the top. His knock was backed up by Naeem Islam's 108(255) and fifties from Shakib, Nasir Hossain and Mahmudullah, who scored 89(143) 96(136) and 62(120), respectively.
Unfortunately, they could not replicate this effort in the fourth innings and failed to chase 245 and lost the match by 77 runs.
