The Australian conditions has always provided a stern test for the Indian batters. Time and again, they have been troubled by the pace and bounce on Australian tracks, and as a result, the Asian side has only won two Test tours, Down Under.
However, despite not getting too much of success in Australia, some of the batters have shown immense potential and have played scintillating knocks which has changed their career. One such venue is Adelaide, where Indian batters have generally performed well.
They are set to play a Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide from December 6, and ahead of the match, we look at 3 best Test knocks played by an Indian batter at Adelaide Oval.
3) Cheteshwar Pujara - 123 (2018)
Not Virat Kohli or Jasprit Bumrah, but Cheteshwar Pujara was the real star for India's twin triumph in Australia during the 2018-19 and 2020-21 tours. He batted with injuries, with bruised shoulders and played some marathon knocks for his nation.
One such innings came during the first Test in Adelaide in 2018. India batted first and on seaming conditions, Pujara showed his class with a fluent 123. Almost all the other batters failed to deliver the goods,. but Pujara stood tall and batted with grit and determination to score the runs.
Interestingly, he also top-scored for India in the second innings (71) as India defeated the Aussies by 31 runs.
2) Virat Kohli - 141 (2014)
Arguably, a career-defining knock for Virat Kohli in whites. He came on the tour on the back of a horrendous series Vs England, and was also given the captaincy duties for the Adelaide Test. He scored a majestic hundred in the first innings, but it was his second-inning blitz which caught the eyes.
India needed 364 to win the first Test and unlike any other previous captains, Virat went for the chase as he scored a brilliant, counter-attacking 141 off 175 balls. The victory was at a touching distance when he got out to Nathan Lyon, and after his dismissal, the equation changed as Indian batters crumbled and lost the match by 48 runs.
1) Rahul Dravid - 233 (2003)
In the 2000s, Australia were nearly invincible across formats and they showed their batting prowess in the Adelaide Test against Sourav Ganguly's men. Ricky Ponting scored a brilliant double ton as the hosts posted 556 runs.
In reply, India lost 4 early wickets, and were in a dire situation when the formidable pair of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman forged a 303-run partnership and brought India back in the contest.
While Laxman scored 148, Dravid went a step ahead and slammed a sizzling 233 runs as India posted 523. Ajit Agarka ran riot in the second innings with a 6-wicket haul as India needed 230 runs to win, and they achieved the target by 4-wickets as Dravid stood tall and remained unbeaten at 72.
