While the eyes of the cricketing world were on the Ashes Boxing Day Test on Friday morning, Vidarbha star batter Dhruv Shorey was once again executing his skills to perfection against Hyderabad in Round 2 of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26, as he scored a brilliant 109*(77), while batting at 3 in Rajkot and took his team's total to 365/5 at the end of 50 overs.
This marked his fifth consecutive century in List A cricket and second of the season, equaling N Jagadeesan's world record and surpassing the great Kumar Sangakkara on his way to number 1. Below is a look at the list of batters with the most List A tons in a row.
2. Alviro Petersen - 4 centuries
In Lions' Momentum One Day Cup 2015/16 triumph, the right-hand batter Alviro Petersen scored 726 runs in 11 innings, averaging 80.66 and was the top-scorer of the competition.
His run of four centuries began with a 100 (100) vs Cobras, followed by 108 (117) vs Dolphins, 108 (96) vs Titans and 134 (128) vs Knights. He scored another 107 (92) against the Dolphins and went on to lift the title.
2. Devdutt Padikkal - 4 centuries
Karnataka reached the semi-final of the 2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy before losing to the eventual champions Mumbai, and Devdutt Padikkal played a crucial part in their tournament, with 737 runs in 7 innings.
In the competition, he scored four consecutive centuries against Odisha 152(140), Kerala 126 (138), Railway 145* (125) and Kerala again 101 (119) in the quarter-final.
2. Karun Nair - 4 centuries
During Vidarbha's run to the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024/25 season final, Karun Nair was the leading run-scorer of the competition with 779 runs in 8 innings at an average of 389.50. On their way to the final, he scored five tons — four of which came on a troat.
His scores read: 163* (107) vs Chandigarh, 111 (103) vs Tamil Nadu, 112 (101) vs Uttar Pradesh and 122 (82) vs Rajasthan in the quarter final. He also scored 88* (44) vs Maharashtra in the semi-final.
2. Kumar Sangakkara - 4 centuries
Playing his last World Cup in 2015, the legendary southpaw showed his class throughout the tournament, accumulating 541 runs in 7 innings as the second highest run scorer and scored four back-to-back centuries in the competition, starting with 105 (76) vs Bangladesh at MCG, 117* (86) vs England in Wellington, 104 (107) vs Australia in Sydney and 124(95) vs Scotland.
1. N Jagadeesan - 5 centuries
The former Tamil Nadu captain went on a berserk 830 run VHT season in 2022, accumulating four back-to-back hundreds, with 114* (112) vs Andhra in a 206 chase, 107 (113) vs Chhattisgarh, 168 (140) vs Goa, 128 (123) vs Haryana and a mammoth 277 (141) vs Arunachal to break the world recrod of most List A tons. Despite his performances, TN was knocked out of the competition in the quarter-final.
1. Dhruv Shorey - 5 centuries
Shorey's run to achieve this feat began in the quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024/25, when Vidarbha faced Rajasthan, and he scored 118* (131) in a successful run-chase of 292 runs.
He scored another well-made 114 (120) against Maharashtra to help his team to 380/3 first innings total in the semi-final and backed it up with 110 (111) in the final against Karnataka, while chasing 349. While his team lost the final, he finished with 494 runs in 8 innings of the season.
He started the 2025/26 season with a bang in red-ball and T20 cricket as well before carrying his form and scoring back-to-back centuries against Bengal, scoring 136 (125) and Hyderabad, scoring 109*(77) to reach the feat. He will now stand a chance to stay at the top all alone when Vidarbha face Jammu and Kashmir on December 29.
