The West Indies' recent tour of India in October 2025 added another chapter to their long-standing struggles against India. A crushing innings-and-140-run defeat in the Ahmedabad opener served as a stark reminder of the challenging conditions and the sheer dominance of the Indian team against the Caribbeans.
This heavy loss finds its place among a series of one-sided contests where India's all-round strength has repeatedly overwhelmed the visitors. Here's a look at the West Indies' biggest Test losses by margin against India, a list defined by batting collapses, mammoth Indian totals, and innings defeats.
5) Lost by an innings and 51 runs
The next one in the list accounts for Mohammed Shami’s sensational Test debut as India crushed West Indies by an innings and 51 runs at Eden Gardens in November 2013. India posted 453, powered by Rohit Sharma’s 177 and Ravichandran Ashwin’s 124*, before Shami ran through the West Indies twice, taking nine wickets, including six bowled, while Ashwin added five more.
West Indies collapsed from 101 for 1 to 168 all out in their second innings, with only Chris Gayle and Kieran Powell showing resistance. The last nine wickets fell in just 23.3 overs, highlighting India’s dominance through pace, reverse swing, and spin.
4) Lost by an innings and 126 runs
Sachin Tendulkar had an emotional farewell as India completed a 2-0 series sweep over West Indies in November 2013 at Mumbai, which also saw a dominant victory. India posted 495, with key contributions from Cheteshwar Pujara (113), Rohit Sharma (111*), and Tendulkar (74), before dismissing West Indies for 182 and 187, winning by an innings and 126 runs.
Significantly, Tendulkar, celebrated with a guard of honour and lap of honour around the Wankhede, bowled his final overs to rapturous applause. West Indies’ resistance was limited, with Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s 41 and Denesh Ramdin’s 53* the only notable efforts, as India ensured a dominant farewell for their legendary batter.
3) Lost by an innings and 140 runs*
West Indies' one of the biggest margins of loss against India in India is the October 2 Test in 2025. India crushed West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in the opening Test at Ahmedabad, sealing victory inside three days. Put in to bat, West Indies folded for 162 as Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) dismantled the top order.
In reply, India dominated with KL Rahul’s gritty 100, captain Shubman Gill’s 50, and a brilliant 206-run stand between Dhruv Jurel (125) and Ravindra Jadeja (104*), taking the hosts to 448/5 declared. With a 286-run lead, India’s bowlers tightened their grip in the second innings, Jadeja starring with 4/54 alongside Siraj (3/31) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/23).
2) Lost by an innings and 141 runs
Back in July 2023, Ravichandran Ashwin’s brilliance guided India to a crushing innings-and-141-run win over West Indies in the first Test in Roseau. India declared on 421 for 5, powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 171 on debut and Rohit Sharma’s 103, before Ashwin ran through West Indies’ batting, finishing with seven wickets in the second innings and a match haul of 12.
Ravindra Jadeja supported with key breakthroughs, while Athanaze and Jason Holder offered brief resistance. West Indies’ top order was dismantled early, and the tail fell quickly under Ashwin’s clever spin.
1) Lost by an innings and 272 runs
In the October 2018 series, India dominated West Indies by an innings-and-272-run victory at Rajkot, marking their heaviest Test win against the visitors. India posted a massive 649/9 declared, led by Virat Kohli (139), Prithvi Shaw (134), Ravindra Jadeja (100*), and Rishabh Pant (92). West Indies were bowled out for 181 and 196 in under 100 overs on the third day, with Kuldeep Yadav taking a five-for and R Ashwin tormenting the lower order with spin.
Kieran Powell’s 83 was the lone resistance, but the rest of the batting lineup collapsed under relentless Indian pressure. India enforced the follow-on and wrapped up the match inside three days, showcasing complete dominance with both bat and ball.
